At Whitley Stimpson, we are thrilled to support our Senior Manager, John Skinner, as he embarks on an inspiring journey with the Katharine House Hospice (KHH) Snowdon Sunrise 2024 challenge on 22 September 2024. This event is part of a crucial fundraising effort by KHH, which provides vital palliative care services to Banbury and its surrounding areas.
John’s return to Snowdon
John Skinner, who brings 30 years of experience in tax and accounting, is not just climbing for personal fulfillment but also to make a significant impact on the community. Reflecting on his decision to participate, John said:
“The last time I climbed Snowdon was over ten years ago with my son Charlie, a university friend, and his son. The hospice has provided the best reason for revisiting the mountain and getting me out from behind my desk. The 4 a.m. start certainly adds an extra dimension!”
This challenge represents more than just a physical climb for John; it is a meaningful opportunity to help raise funds for KHH to support the countless families during difficult times.
The importance of Katharine House Hospice
KHH plays a critical role in offering compassionate care and support to individuals facing life-limiting illnesses. With operating costs of £9 per minute—amounting to nearly £13,000 per day—community support and fundraising are essential to keep the hospice running.
The funds raised through events like the Snowdon Sunrise challenge not only cover clinical costs but also enhance the hospice experience with services such as bereavement support, art therapies, relaxation classes, and nutritious meals.
The challenge of climbing Snowdon
Climbing Yr Wyddfa (Mount Snowdon) is a daunting task, especially under the cover of night. This popular daytime summit becomes an exhilarating challenge when tackled in the dark, offering the reward of witnessing a breathtaking sunrise over the Snowdonian mountains.
This “micro-challenge” by KHH highlights the uphill battle faced by those with life-limiting conditions, serving as a metaphor for the strength and resilience required to overcome such challenges.
