Accountants for landowners and rural businesses
The management of landed estates has changed significantly over the last decade. As one of the region’s largest independent accountants and business advisors, we are well placed to provide the services that landowners and rural businesses require to meet the challenges brought about by these changes.
Our team can offer specialist advice and direction on business structures, strategic planning, cashflow, financial reporting, tax and VAT planning.
Income tax and business structure
We can help you save income tax by recommending the most suitable business structure for your business, including partnerships, companies, sole traders and trusts.
Capital gains tax on the sale of assets
The sale of assets, particularly development land, can lead to a large capital gains tax (CGT) liability. We can help you make use of the relevant reliefs to minimise CGT.
Inheritance tax and passing on your wealth
By claiming agricultural property relief (APR) and business property relief (BPR) the inheritance tax (IHT) paid by your estate when you die can be kept to a minimum. We can also advise on making lifetime gifts, transferring assets into trusts, and restructuring business ownership.
Diversification
Many of our clients have successfully diversified into a range of additional businesses which complement the existing estate business. As a result, we have experience of advising clients who have diversified into:
- Fishing, shooting and sporting venues
- Corporate hospitality and wedding venues
- Retail and farm shops
- Restaurants and tearooms
- Equestrian centres
- Visitor and leisure attractions
Heritage, the future and succession planning
We work with you to help drive your business forward, keeping the estate on a sound commercial footing as well as supporting your long-term goals and exit plans. Our experience with clients means we are sympathetic to the pressures that can build when a business is also a way of life.
